School Time!
We are in our 6th week of school and it has been keeping us very busy. Our Fridays are full with co-op. We leave the house at 7:15am to get to co-op early enough to unload our school things before Mass begins at 8:15am. Then co-op starts at 9am and goes until 4pm. We get home just in time for dinner (which thankfully, Rob takes care of on Fridays!). It is a wonderful time of fellowship with other Catholic homeschooling families and also some serious schoolwork! ;) The rest of the school week we are at home doing all of our other schooling.
Here are some pics from our year so far!
Ian's first two weeks of school were: Color Week and Shapes Week
Caroline wants to do whatever Ian is doing. It's hard keeping her out of his "work". She loves to try to say different letters, especially the vowels.
Color Week: Matching all of his cars to laminated color cards.
Color of the Day must have been yellow here. ;) Not sure what he made.
Painting with different instruments: roller, pom pom, foam brush.
Isabel painting on canvas.
Our first trip to the NC Zoo!
Gorillas RIGHT AT THE GLASS!!!! It was so cool!
After the first two weeks of school, we started the Letter of the Week.
Here is "A" for apple peeling.
Isabel is studying Ancient Times in History this year and just finished Ancient Egypt. So we made pyramids out of sugar cubes. The fun part about homeschooling is that Ian gets to participate in some of Isabel's schoolwork and she gets to share in some of his, and they both have a good time when they get to do projects together.
Every morning we go up to the school room, say the Morning Offering, an Our Father, the Pledge of Allegiance and then Isabel starts her schoolwork independently and Ian and Caroline and I go over the calendar. We point to each day of the week with a dowel as we count up to the correct date and then we sing the days of the week song. Caroline decided to do this all on her own one day. She is 17 months going on 3.
Wrapped Isabel as a mummy after we studied mummification. Ian was not interested in being mummified.
"D" is for dropper work! Ian loved transferring water from the glass jar using an eye dropper to a plastic bullet holder that we swiped from Daddy.
"B" is for body. Ian was initially upset because when he drew his eyes he thought they looked "sad", but we fixed this by adding a smile.
Celebrating the Blessed Virgin Mary's birthday on September 8th!
