First Look! (at the new chicks)

Here are our chicks!  We picked them up last night.  There are 10 chicks, 8 of which we will keep and 2 go to relatives.  They are all doing great except for one, Little Peeper, the first chick that Isabel named...Little Peeper is spending the day in the intensive care unit of our bathroom hospital.

Can you tell she's excited?  She was apparently shuddering with excitement when they picked the chicks up!

Holding a Rhode Island Red.

Brooder set up.  Right now there are pine shavings underneath the paper towels.  We will remove the paper towels once they figure out that food is food and pine shavings are not.  You can see the water feeder and the food trough, and of course the heat lamp.  The cardboard is to block any drafts that might make it too cold for them.

Chicks in the feeder....pretty soon we will put a little cover over it so they can't do this ;)

The little black and white one up front is a Barred Rock.

Peeking into the brooder.

Ian's first look inside the brooder at the chicks the next morning.

His view of a chick that fell asleep standing up, beak down!

He wanted to hold a chick right away!

Snow, at the new house!

We've been in the new house for over a month now and it has snowed twice!  We are enjoying the space and our cozy wood burning fireplace :)  Isabel is 2 months shy of 7 and Ian is 22 months in these photos.  By the time we actually made it outside, the snow had already begun to melt :(

Halloween 2012

Ahhh what can I say about Halloween with an almost 19 month old?  These pictures should about sum it up...and if that's not good enough, watch the video at the end.

Awww, sweet little kitty, Isabel.  Her trick-or-treat bag is hand decorated with her own creations!

                                                        Not a happy camper....

Where'd he go?  Oh wait....that's Ian flailing in the background.....we quit trying to hold him up    for pictures and finally just laid him down gently and let him kick it out.....

Kitty Isabel in her faux fur vest and showing off her cat tail...

Isabel and Uncle Mike on his 26th.

So Isabel was the "purrrrrfect" little black kitty for Halloween and smiled in every picture.  She had a wonderful time trick or treating in Grandma's neighborhood with Uncle Mike, Mommy, Daddy, Ian, Aunt Kate and Uncle Paul and Maya, their dog.  All the little orange things on the front door are decorations Isabel drew and taped up for Halloween.  To the right of Isabel is the amazing howling wolf pumpkin that Rob carved, and to the left is an Elmo carving (you kind of have to squint and use your imagination).  You can't really see this, but Iz also drew with a chalk a really giant outline of Uncle Mike celebrating his birthday on the front porch....his chalk legs go all the way down the stairs.

And here is Ian:

Trick-or-treating went fairly well.  Ian started off riding in the wagon, then after realizing that sister was running up to every door, he wanted to go too....so he followed her a couple of times, then we realized we should put a bag in his hand...he really enjoyed holding it.  He also said, "cow" a couple of times and "mooed" down the street, but after a face plant on the pavement, and the temperature dropping, Ian and Mommy decided to head back to Grandma's in search of his lovey, Blue Bear.  He walked the entire way back, and went to bed without complaint.  Before bed, I got a few pics without tears...but no smiles.

Once Isabel and the rest of the crew got back, we sang "Happy Birthday" to Uncle Mike and ate some festive Halloween Birthday cake.

Schooling and more schooling at BAC

More pictures!  We started back to school....homeschool, that is, at the very end of July.  Here are a few pictures of what schooling looked like at Grammy's house.  Followed by some other cute pics from the summer.  The last pictures are from our recent October trip to Belmont Abbey College for our 10 year college graduation anniversary and to see some great friends!  Don't know what I was thinking, but I neglected to take any iconic pictures of our family in front of the beautiful buildings on campus. :(

On the Farm Summer 2012

Wishing this post was titled "On OUR Farm"....but old pictures from the summer visit to Carl Sandburg's Farm in Flat Rock, NC will have to suffice!
