Letters T and U and Halloween too!

I'm combining posts for T and U weeks because while we got alot done, I didn't take so many pictures! :(

T words:  teacher, toad, turtle, truck, tree, toothbrush, turkey, tricycle, tunnel, toes, tiara, train, trail

Toad catching!
Tried to watch ant tunnels, but our ant habitat was not a success.
Trail walking to collect our beautiful fall leaves for our Tree Table Topper!
Train-tie-up (Isabel's creation).
Letter T out of torn tissue paper.
Made an apple torte (which has become our new favorite dessert!)
Show and tell included 3 tiaras and 3 toads.
Letter T tracing worksheet.
"T" crafting supplies:  we used tissue paper, cut up triangles and toad and turtle stickers to make a collage.

For U Week we did some letter tracing sheets.  Made a U is for umbrella craft for our alphabet wall, had a field trip to our anatomy Ultrasound to find out that Isabel is having a baby brother!!!  And we did paint craft where she had to put the number of "raindrops" in blue paint that matched the number on the umbrella.

This week was also Pumpkin Week as we were getting close to Halloween!  We decorated pumpkins, and made some special pumpkin treats.  Isabel went trick-or-treating with neighborhood friends as "Rocket" from Little Einsteins.

Letter S Week

Letter S week was the first full week of October.

Here is what we accomplished:

Chalkboard words.
Sand tray letter S.
Letter S out of small seashells.
S is for snake letter tracing worksheet.
Sensory:  Sand tray with seashell sorting.
Spray and splatter paint art using squirt bottles (a huge hit!)
Stamping art.
Stegosaurus chicken nuggets, sandwiches, soup.
Spreading her own peanut butter onto her sandwich!
Striped and Sprinkled Snake and Star Sugar Cookies.

We also completed Lesson 4:  The 10 Commandments from Who Am I?  I was glad to do the 10 commandments, and especially this visual craft because now she can literally "see" God's commandments instead of us just talking about it...we have our "own" stone tablets to reference ;)  And not only that, but she had a very good memory for recalling the commandments after we had read the story and reviewed them!  I was impressed!

Pumpkin Picking 2010

Today we went with our friends to pick pumpkins at Vollmer Farm.  This was a really neat place and we didn't even get to experience all the "extra fun" stuff they had available because that part is only open on the weekends.

Letter R is for Rocket! And the Feast of Michaelmas.

Isabel has been very "into" Rocket from Disney's Little Einsteins show.  Everyday I hear, "Mommy, call me Rocket today"...coupled with a mischevious grin.  Then somehow the entire family (dog and cat included) become Little Einsteins characters for the day!  So I knew R Week could be fun for her!

I made up an "R is for Rocket" tracing page for her.
"R is for Rocket" puzzle.
Letter R chalkboard words.
We made rainbow rice and played with it!
We did a rainbow craft with pipecleaners and beads.
Explanation of rainbows and Noah's Ark story.
Read Planting a Rainbow by Lois Ehlert.
Letter R scavenger hunt and word trace.
Made our letter R out of ribbon.
R is for rainbow letter tracing page.
Rescued a frog from Office Max....true story!
Played in the rain!

Wednesday September 29th was the Feast of the Archangels, also called Michaelmas (mick-el-moss) so we learned about the 3 archangels, and what it meant to be an archangel versus a different type of angel.  The archangels are also noted by their special colors!  (Did you know each archangel had 2 colors representing it??)  We worked on a really cute archangel mobile craft and hung it in our home, and also said a special prayer asking for the intercession and protection of each archangel that day!
