Letter V

Wow only 4 more letters left to complete our Letter of the Week lessons (it's only taken like 52 weeks to get close to finishing 26 letters!).

Our chalkboard words for the week were:  violet, vase, veins, vine, vehicles, vegetables, vote, violin...and some others!

Last week Isabel went with Rob and I to vote in the midterm elections, so we tied that in to this week's lesson.
We painted with vegetables; Isabel was happy to invite some friends over to paint with us.
Lots of vegetable snacks this week...especially trying new vegetables or those we don't usually eat.
She did a V is for Violets craft to put up on our alphabet wall.
She cut out a volcano shape and used a q-tip to paint red lava for a volcano craft!  (Turned out quite well!)
She did a V is for volcano letter tracing page.

We also got back into our more detailed study of numbers (we're only on number 4!)...but this includes finding the number 4 in magazine or grocery ads, cutting it out and pasting it onto a page.  Lots of practice writing the number.  The recognition at this point of the numbers is really easy....it is more about writing practice at this point, and a review of the number.

We also got back into our Who Am I? lessons.  This week was Lesson 5.  We talked about how different people show their love in different ways....some people get married, some remain single, some go into the priesthood or religious life as a nun or brother.  We had fun looking at pictures of Rob and I when we got married, and clergy in their different attire.  What really cracked me up is after we looked at a picture of Mother Teresa in her blue and white habit, Isabel said that a nun used to come over to visit at a neighbor's house (but I knew full well that she was talking about our Muslim neighbors, since they wear the head veils).  Hmm....so not everyone who veils their head is a nun!

Letters T and U and Halloween too!

I'm combining posts for T and U weeks because while we got alot done, I didn't take so many pictures! :(

T words:  teacher, toad, turtle, truck, tree, toothbrush, turkey, tricycle, tunnel, toes, tiara, train, trail

Toad catching!
Tried to watch ant tunnels, but our ant habitat was not a success.
Trail walking to collect our beautiful fall leaves for our Tree Table Topper!
Train-tie-up (Isabel's creation).
Letter T out of torn tissue paper.
Made an apple torte (which has become our new favorite dessert!)
Show and tell included 3 tiaras and 3 toads.
Letter T tracing worksheet.
"T" crafting supplies:  we used tissue paper, cut up triangles and toad and turtle stickers to make a collage.

For U Week we did some letter tracing sheets.  Made a U is for umbrella craft for our alphabet wall, had a field trip to our anatomy Ultrasound to find out that Isabel is having a baby brother!!!  And we did paint craft where she had to put the number of "raindrops" in blue paint that matched the number on the umbrella.

This week was also Pumpkin Week as we were getting close to Halloween!  We decorated pumpkins, and made some special pumpkin treats.  Isabel went trick-or-treating with neighborhood friends as "Rocket" from Little Einsteins.

                                                                    Pumpkin decorating!

                                                          Making pumpkin treats!

Crazy dress-up time and card from Grammy and Grandpa-G!

                                                                  Rocket before!

Candy supply after.

Letter S Week

Letter S week was the first full week of October.

Here is what we accomplished:

Chalkboard words.
Sand tray letter S.
Letter S out of small seashells.
S is for snake letter tracing worksheet.
Sensory:  Sand tray with seashell sorting.
Spray and splatter paint art using squirt bottles (a huge hit!)
Stamping art.
Stegosaurus chicken nuggets, sandwiches, soup.
Spreading her own peanut butter onto her sandwich!
Striped and Sprinkled Snake and Star Sugar Cookies.

We also completed Lesson 4:  The 10 Commandments from Who Am I?  I was glad to do the 10 commandments, and especially this visual craft because now she can literally "see" God's commandments instead of us just talking about it...we have our "own" stone tablets to reference ;)  And not only that, but she had a very good memory for recalling the commandments after we had read the story and reviewed them!  I was impressed!

Pumpkin Picking 2010

Today we went with our friends to pick pumpkins at Vollmer Farm.  This was a really neat place and we didn't even get to experience all the "extra fun" stuff they had available because that part is only open on the weekends.
